Scotland - Outer  Hebrides

Edinburgh to Edinburgh - Round Trip Through The Outer Hebrides

Took a trip last September (2021) to Scotland with some neighbors. It was a personal guided tour with Best Scottish Tours. Very nice way to tour as no need to drive, nice places to stay, breakfast and dinner too. Highly recommend Best Scottish Tours  and our guide Matthew.

The trip was a round trip from Edinburgh to Hadrian's Wall, up the west coast to the islands and back to Edinburgh.

Images here are currently in chronological order. This gallery is very large as it contains subjects that include architecture, museum artifacts, landscapes, flora and fauna (including a rare Wild Scottish cat), ruins, standing stones, landmarks, wool making (Harris Tweed, and yes I bought a coat), and snapshots of things I thought might be interesting. I hope to add captions soon. Use my contact page if you have questions.

Due to size the initial loading of the gallery will take a couple of minutes. Please be patient and enjoy.

Calanais Standing Stones, Isle of Lewis, Scotland
Calanais Standing Stones, Isle of Lewis, Scotland utting out from the earth below the brooding Hebridean sky, the Calanais Standing Stones (also known as the Callanish stones) are a majestic sight. Set on the west coast of Lewis, the most northerly island in the Outer Hebrides, the prehistoric structure is made from gneiss rock and is more than 5,000 years old. It’s thought it was used as a kind of astronomical observatory.
